The friend you tell first. The family thread that never sleeps. The group chat that raised you. GoldChat is where those conversations live — share a username, not your phone number, and spend barely any data doing it, wherever in the world your people are.
Hello my loves. Are we still meeting after work?
Yes Grandma! I'll be there by 6 — I'm bringing the bread.
Perfect. I'll bring the drinks and pick up Lerato.
Most of the world buys data in prepaid bundles, and the small top-ups cost the most per gigabyte. GoldChat starts there: a tiny app, photos shrunk before they send, calls that sip instead of gulp, and nobody selling your attention. On an unlimited plan? Then all that thrift just reads as good manners — a small app that minds its own business. Your people, your chats, your business.
Verify once with your number, then share only your @username. Nobody sees your digits — not even the people you chat with every day.
Every photo is compressed before it leaves your phone and the app itself is barely 5 MB, so chatting costs as little of your data as possible.
Made in South Africa, hosted in Johannesburg, run under one privacy law (POPIA) by one named founder. Wherever you are in the world, you know exactly where your chats live and who answers for them.
GoldChat is built on the one rule every serious privacy law agrees on: collect as little as possible, and be honest about the rest. Our servers sit in Johannesburg under South Africa's POPIA — and the rule travels with you, wherever you log in from.
Being straight with you: chats between up-to-date devices are end-to-end encrypted — sealed on your phone, unreadable to our server. Reactions and delivery details aren't end-to-end, and older app versions fall back to HTTPS-only until updated. We'd rather spell that out than imply more.
Data-light calls between Android, iPhone and the web — about 7–9 MB an hour for voice, with your live data use right on the call screen.
Cut your own from any photo, in any language you speak. Then grab the new World Talk pack — Hola!, Ciao!, Jambo!, Namaste, OMG, one big hug — and Mzansi Talk, 32 stickers of the way South Africans actually talk, from the place GoldChat was born. All free, in every chat.
Make a group for the whole family in seconds — add people by username and keep everyone in one place, whichever country they woke up in.
Hold, talk, send. Sometimes it's just faster to say it — especially to the one relative who never types back.
Share pictures without watching your data disappear. We shrink them first, automatically.
Post an update that disappears after 24 hours. Friends can view and reshare it — with credit.
Know when your message landed and when someone's replying. Live, instantly.
Send exactly where you are when it matters — only when you choose to tap it.
Sign up with your number for verification, choose your @username, and that's the only thing you ever share.
Get your code by email or SMS — whichever suits you. No app-store account needed.
Search a friend's username, send a chat request, and start talking the moment they accept.
Open it in your browser right now, get it on Android, or add it to your iPhone Home Screen — it runs full screen, with notifications, just like the app.
