Getting GoldChat from Google Play
“The Play Store says GoldChat isn’t there”
Nothing is wrong with your phone. GoldChat is in Google’s closed testing stage, which means the Play Store only shows it to people who have been added to the tester list. Until we come out of testing, searching for GoldChat finds nothing and the plain Play link shows an error — for everybody. The steps below put you on the list.
Did you install GoldChat from this website already? Read this first.
You have to uninstall that version before Play can install its own — the two are signed with different keys, so Android refuses to put one on top of the other. Before you uninstall, do one thing: in GoldChat, open Account → Chat key backup, tap Back up and choose a secret phrase. After installing from Play, restore the backup with that same phrase and your encrypted messages come back with it. If you skip the backup, the messages already on that phone are gone for good — they are encrypted to that installation, and nobody, including us, can unlock them without your backup. Your account, your username and your chats come back either way.
Get on the tester list
Send us the Google account you want to test with and we will add you by hand. We do this in batches, so it can take a few hours.
Ask to be addedUse the Google account that is signed in to the Play Store on that phone. Not sure which one it is? Open the Play Store, tap your picture in the top corner, and use the address shown there. It does not have to be a Gmail address — but joining with one account and installing with another quietly fails.
Accept the test
Once you are on the list, open this link on your phone and tap Become a tester.

Once you have accepted, go back to the tester page on the phone that is signed in to the account you joined with, and tap its Download it on Google Play link. While we are in closed testing that is the only Play link that works — the public store page answers “not found” for everybody until the listing goes public. If the link is not there yet, wait a few minutes and reload — Google takes a little while to notice.
Open the tester pageStill says the app is not available? Then step 2 was not finished on this phone, or the Play Store here is signed in to a different Google account. Those are the only two causes — go back up and check.
