Planning to join the Google Play test? Do that first. This download and the Play version are signed with different keys, so Play cannot install over this one — switching later means uninstalling. Before you do, open Account → Chat key backup and back up with a secret phrase; restore it after installing from Play and your messages come with you.

Installing on Android

  1. Tap Download above.
  2. Open the downloaded file (check your Downloads notification).
  3. Android will ask to allow installing from this source — tap Settings → Allow, then Install. This is normal for any app installed from a website rather than from the Play Store.
  4. Open GoldChat, pick a username, and verify by Email or SMS.

Installing on iPhone

  1. Open goldchat.co.za/app in Safari (it has to be Safari — Chrome on iPhone can't install it).
  2. Tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open GoldChat from your Home Screen. It runs full screen, with no address bar.
  4. Pick a username and verify by Email or SMS.
  5. Tap Allow when it asks about notifications, so you know when a message arrives.

Why not the App Store yet? Apple charges a yearly developer fee that we haven't paid yet. Added to your Home Screen, GoldChat looks and behaves like the real app — same chats, same notifications. Notifications need iOS 16.4 or newer, and only work once it's on your Home Screen.
